Police in Jigawa state have arrested two suspects in connection with an attempted kidnapping in Kiyawa Local Government Area. The suspects, aged 25 and 27, are residents of Zawaya village, according to a statement by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu.
Shiisu confirmed the arrests in a statement issued Saturday from Dutse. He identified the suspects based on age and origin but did not disclose their names or provide details of the alleged victim. The suspects were apprehended following a reported attempt to abduct a resident in the area.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be involved in the incident, Shiisu added. He stated that the case has been transferred to the Special Crimes Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The Whistler and Peoples Gazette both reported on the arrests, citing official police sources. No further charges or court proceedings have been announced. The police command did not disclose whether any weapons or vehicles were recovered during the operation.
Security challenges, including incidents of abduction, remain a concern in parts of northern Nigeria. Jigawa state has seen periodic reports of such crimes, prompting increased police patrols and community alerts.
